I do way, way, way too much online browsing for clothes.  Combined with the start of law classes next month I've done a crazy amount of outfit planning.

While I practically live in JCrew's 3inch chino shorts during the summer, I've been looking for something a little more professional for school.  DC stays hot and sticky through September, so I've been looking for something that would work for classes and casual school events.

How cute is this color?

Basically, I don't need professors or potential future employers seeing my butt hanging out of short shorts!  The JCrew 5inch chino shorts are an option, but I find that they tend to look a little dowdy on girls who aren't super tall.  And I just can't stand bermudas; I don't think I've ever seen them look flattering on anyone.

Anyway, given my constant online shopping, I have a few picks that I think would work great.

I'm all about the Cotton canvas cargo short from JCrew.  I recently picked them up during a sale. The slightly longer inseam (4"), slightly higher rise, and dressier fabric bring these up a notch.  The seaming adds structure and the addition of a belt would be smashing.

I'm a HUGE Lilly fan and I love the Callahan short.  With a 5inch inseam and a higher rise these are a bit more covered and grown-up looking.  Plus, who can resist the adorable prints?

What are your picks for summer shorts?

xoxo Kate

  1. I love the callahans and jcrew chinos- they are def my go to pairs. But I feel the same about not wanting to show too much off. So I've been wearing a lot of skirts instead, jcrew has some really cute ones (in the sale section) and the Avery Lilly skirt is always cute.

  2. @miss andrea lee: I'm really liking skirts lately too. They're cool and easy like shorts but just a smidge dressier.

  3. I bought a pair of callahans yesterday in the LP section of Belk's. The pair pictured above were 30% off!!!

  5. Callahans and Banana Republic "Roll Up" shorts are my favorites for summer. The BR shorts are great as you can roll them to be shorter if you like!
